Kenya’s book smarts are celebrating their excellent performance in last year’s KCSE. Among others is Lydia Katini Mwangasha from Kenya High School who was the best female student nationally.
At her celebration party she said that
“I can never be happier than I am today, it’s incredible, this is the most amazing experience so far, I am still in shock”. “I wasn’t really happy about last year’s KCSE results because no female student appeared among the best 10 nationally. It was then up to me to prove to the Kenyans that girls can also be genius” she added.
Lydia who is the baby of the family has always been brilliant in her academics and she wants to become a doctor.
“I really want to do medicine so that I can be in position to render medical services to those in pain. There’s a time I visited an orphanage and came across lots of sick kids who had not yet been taken to hospital because of inadequate funds in that particular orphanage”.
The Minister of Education Professor Sam Ongeri said that last year’s performance had greatly improved in both rural and urban areas. He called upon all high school students to put in more efforts, in order to excel even better than last years’.
He however warned first year university students about joining bad groups who are involved in crime, drugs, cults and immorality.
“You should be in position to do the right thing at the right time and in the right place. If you go to University, you’ve gone to study and have a bright future. You’ve not been admitted to become criminals, drug addicts or prostitutes”.
