As the Scorpions prepare to face Namibia in Windhoek in the weekend of 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September, The Gambia has jumped down to seven places in the latest world ranking released by FIFA, world football’s governing body, on Wednesday.

Coach Paul Put’s team were ranked in within the range of 100-105 but have now down-rocketed down by seven places. In Africa, the team is ranked as 27th on the continent, and after playing some friendly international competitive games with Gabon and against the Leopards of DR Congo, Gambia has dropped off both in the FIFA and Continent's ranking.

The Gambia is now ranked as 107th in the world with 306 points, and 29th in Africa, behind Niger.

Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) is still Africa’s giants as they top the continental ranking with Ghana and Egypt following closely behind.

Fellow group-mates Burkina Faso are 40th in the world and 5th in Africa whilst Namibia is 143rd in the world and 38th in the Africa.

In overall world rankings, Spain has also been shuffled off by Netherlands who are now the world’s best followed by Spain and Germany.

The next FIFA world ranking release will be on September 21st, after The Gambia would have played Namibia in the African Cup of Nations qualifier.
