The Role of Social Media in Africa

Social media continues to play an important role in the social, political and economic development of Africa. Many people now use various networking platforms to put pressure on governments to initiate political and economic reforms and opening up avenues for job creation.

African leaders have also not been left out in the craze. Most have taken to Facebook and Twitter to connect with their citizens; using these platforms as campaign tools. However, it is still believed that the continent still has the lowest number of social media-users as compared to the rest of the world.
