Kabiru Sokoto, who was arrested on Saturday in Abuja, is suspected to have taken part in the 25 December bombing of St Theresa Catholic church in Madalla, just outside Abuja.

Kabiru escaped from police custody during a visit to his home which police intended to search. According to reports, the police convoy was surrounded by youths in the area causing commotion during which the suspect escaped.

An unidentified police commissioner has been arrested in what has been described as an embarrasement on the government's attempts to combat the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

According to AFP news agency, the police blamed the attack of the escort on Boko Haram members, and accused the police commissioner of being negligent.

"The police view this development as a serious negligence on the part of the commissioner of police and have since queried and suspended him from duty," said the statement.

Nigerian Police re nothing but a disappointment to dis country. For an acused person to have escaped, I wanna believe there is more to it. The commissional of police might be part of the plan for him to escape. Cos I wonde why u will take an accused person to his house for a search and you won't hand cuff him or put him on shackles. All the police involved in dis scene must face the law.
