The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Arnaud Akodjénou, met on Monday with the president of the Conseil national de la presse, Mr. Eugène Dié Kacou, and other members of the media regulatory institution.

Mr. Akodjénou explained that the meeting, held at the CNP’s offices, was part of a series of encounters he has been having with representatives of the State, political parties, civil society and the international community. However, he added that he had also come to pay homage to the CNP for the work it has been doing.

In this regard, the Deputy Special Representative highlighted the important role of the Council, and of the media, in the country’s progression towards reconciliation, peace and development. He confirmed the readiness of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), pursuant to its mandate, to support the CNP in this area, within its means.

M. Dié Kakou welcomed the initiative taken by the Deputy Special Representative to visit his institution and the will he expressed to contribute to the CNP’s efforts to help the press to fully realise its professional potential.
