After only being in power for two year, President Malam Bacai Sanha, has died aged just 64.

The death of the President Malam Bacai Sanha was confirmed by an officia at lthe Guniea Bissau embassy in Paris, who said the president had died on Monday morning at the Val de Grace hospital.

The cause of his death is yet unknown.

Sanha, who had been hospitalized "for about a month", took power two years ago following the assasination of former president Joao Bernardo Vieira.

Raimundo Pereira, who is currently the head of the National Assembly, is expected to take over until new elections can be organized.
