Prejudices are a fact of life in most societies. The subjects vary, the depth of intolerance varies and the social net to cushion against the effect varies in strength from society to society.

Homosexuality or same sex attraction is one such issue about which there is ingrained prejudice in Nigeria as it is in most parts of Africa.

So deep-seated is the aversion to homosexuality that it is considered a taboo and as a result anyone suspected of being a member of this group of people face severe penalties.

Gay men or Men who have Sex with Men, otherwise known as MSM, face a particularly intense discrimination. Health experts say society is endangering itself by treating MSM as contemptible outlaws.

In this special report titled “MSM: BETWEEN THE ROCK AND THE HARD PLACE”, Michael Ilesanmi investigates the plight  in Nigeria of Men who have Sex with Men and how it may be fuelling a new wave of HIV Pandemic.
